Oscar loves to avoids things on his way to school that he thinks may have caused him misfortune, such as an old oak tree where he fell and scraped his knee. His avoidance strategy leads him to add detours, making his school route longer and longer. When he wakes up one day and realizes he has overslept, he is forced to face his fears head-on and run straight to school.

Run, Oscar, Run! is the first Storybook "Run" Edition. It is meant to get children READING and RUNNING. The activity prompts follow the story in the book and children are often asked to run back and forth between certain pages and need to do certain activities just like the character in the story.

This book can be hung up in a gymnasium, along a fence, or on a path where children can run freely. Children could either be guided through the story or left alone to read and run.
